QUALIFICATIONS

I have 37 years experience (as at October 2020) in chemical and mechanical weed control. Much experience in consulting the forest industry and conservation bodies with products, providing training and planning management.
My AVCASA exams were passed with distinction (certificate no. 297), and I am a member of ACDASA (ID no. 2510). This qualifies me to legally supply herbicides, do training and make recommendations.

My other qualifications & experiences include:

1980: Obtained Forestry Diploma from Saasveld Forestry College in George.
1983 - 1986: Managed own Chemical Weed Control Teams.
1986: Joined BAYER AGROCHEM, specialising in Forestry and Conservation chemical weed control. Extensive training of spraying teams in Forestry, Conservation and Working for Water, was done.
1992: BAYER asked all field reps to start their own agencies. Dix van Dam trading as CHEMIT was formed to handle commissions and cash sales.
1994: Started HLATINI Forest & Garden business, supplying herbicides, Husqvarna products, chainsaws, brush cutters, spraying equipment, slashers, and more. Hlatini was run as an independent self owned business until end of December 2017.
1997: Joined SILVIX CC Weed Control Specialists, which supply herbicides and weed control training on a national & international basis.
2007: SILVIX was bought by TSUNAMI and became a division of TSUNAMI.
2010: TSUNAMI was bought by ARYSTA LIFESCIENCE. SILVIX became a division of the international ARYSTA LIFESCIENCE.
2013: In November SILVIX broke away from ARYSTA LIFESCIENCE to become an independent private company. SILVIX Forestry (Pty) Ltd was formed, with myself as one of the shareholders. See www.silvix.co.za
2017: HLATINI Forestry Supplies sold entirely to Mr. Elvis Shabangu. I stay on as technical consultant and skills transfer of Husqvarna & other forestry equipment.
2018 - July 2018 - Some exciting new products. Details will be added to product list. One of them is Suppositree. It is a tablet for control of Gall Wasp and White Grub.

Dix is very experienced in analysing a variety of situations and working out the most appropriate methods, products and management systems for treating the situation. In addition, he is supported by a highly experienced national team of experts from ARYSTA LifeScience and SILVIX Forestry (Pty) Ltd.

Training

Dix has consulted and trained many operators and management teams over the last 36 years. Training includes the mixing of agricultural chemicals, calibration of spraying, correct application methods, maintaining spraying equipment, correct methods of mechanical weed control, calculating production expected, management systems, Planning of spray operations and labour management.
